Driving Here

Travel from the UK by car;
The journey is best made by crossing from Dover to Dunkerque by ferry. From here it is motorway nearly all the way traveling through Belgium, Germany, Austria.

From here you travel from Austria south into Italy on the motorway, then west into Slovenia coming to Bovec, then Kobarid. This route will avoid the need for vignettes in Slovenia.

See map

TOLLS; There will be almost no tolls on the route aside from one tunnel in Austria and, if you drive directly into sSlovenia, one tunnel from Austria to Slovenia if you choose the Karavanken route, or there is a toll free route via Italy (turn right near Villach, Austria).

Vignettes (for motorway use):
- Austria. Buy a 10 day vignette (about 10 euro)
- Slovenia. If using any Slovene Motorways at any time, buy a 7 day vignette (about 10 euro).
Do not avoid them, they are checking!

The drive time from Dunkerque to Kobarid is around 12 hours of continous driving and 830 miles.

On travelling over I tend to stop at a Formula1 hotel in Frechen, Germany as this makes a nice break. The return journey I often go non stop as you get a good break on the ferry.
