Venue

SLOVENIA
Slovenia is an Alpine country (for the area we will be flyuing in). It is a part of the Julian Alps chain and lies between Italy (west), Austria (north), Croatia (south) and Hungary (west). It is slightly smaller than Wales and has a population of around 2 million.

We will be basing the competition at a town called Kobarid. From here we can access two local launches, Stol and Kobala. Not too far away is another launch, Lijak.

Stol: Centered on a 30km ridge it offers a large, grassy launch and plenty of opportunity for clusters of pilots to stay airbourne. It copes well with east or west valley winds. Access is via a long, rocky track. Visible from the ground base but 45 minutes to access via vehicle (4x4 or local parataxi).

Kobala: At the far end of the valley. Large, grassy launch with reliable thermals to keep large groups of pilots airbourne. It favours east winds for tasks, but is suitable in west winds also. Access is via a long, tarmac track. Visible from base and again approximately 45 minutes to access via vehicle. Limited parking favours local parataxi.

Lijak: 45 minutes drive to the south this is a large take off that experiences a mediteranian climate. This site would be a fallback in the event of bad weather in the mountains. The launch is part of a 35km broken ridge that offers great race potential. It accepts of all directions, althougn north winds must be light. There is space for some vehicle parking.
